V8 - Updating items for existing Shopify custom and private apps
As of January 2026, Shopify changed how third party applications must connect to Shopify. All new Shopify carts must connect to SOS via the SOS Connector App, which is being finalized with Shopify. Although no new custom or private app can be created in Shopify, SOS customers with existing custom or private apps can still use their Shopify cart connections in SOS Inventory.
Existing custom or private apps can be used to:
- Edit or add items in SOS Inventory, Shopify, or both. Ensure that the SKU of an item or variant in Shopify matches the SKU of the matching item in SOS Inventory.
edit_noteNOTE: Each item in SOS Inventory must be given a unique SKU so that Shopify is able to map to the correct SOS Inventory item. This includes Shopify item variants (such as one SKU for a small blue tee shirt and a different SKU for a medium blue tee shirt). An exception to this rule does allow the same SKU to be used in Shopify for all variants of the same item if the variants merely reflect different pricing. For example, if one variant is for the item's wholesale price, another is for its retail price, and both variants share the same SKU, they will map to just one item in SOS Inventory that matches that SKU.
- Refresh the cart connection. On the Task bar, go to Settings Menu > Cart Connections. Select the Edit button next to the existing Shopify cart connection to open its Edit page, then simply Save and close.
