V9 - Generating a build or process transaction from a work order

A build or process transaction can be generated from a work order. But the procedure used is different from that typically used to create a child transaction (such as a shipment) from a parent transaction (such as a sales order). On the Work orders list (Operations > Production > Work orders), use the work order record's Quick view action to bring up all the line items requiring manufacturing.

When you select Quick view, a pop-up appears, as shown in the screenshot below for work order WO-1009:

The Quick view action of a work order allows you to create a build or process transaction for an item that is ready for manufacturing.

Selecting the Produce button for a line item generates the appropriate manufacturing transaction type (a build or a process transaction), based on the item type.

Use the Produce all button if you have multiple assembly items on a work order that are ready for production. This button cannot be used if the output and/or inputs of an assembly are lot- or serial-tracked. If you have multiple assembly items on a work order, selecting Produce all generates a separate build for each assembly item on the work order, since only one output can be produced on a build transaction. Produce all will not generate process transactions.

The quantity of an item that has already been produced, whether fully or partially completed, will be reflected in the Produced column of the work order. Only finished goods are reflected. Builds or processes using a work-in-progress (WIP) work center will not be reflected in this column.

If you select Produce again for any item in which some, but not all, quantities have been produced, SOS will adjust the quantity accordingly on the new build or process transaction.

The Show item names slider allows you to turn the names of items displayed in the table on or off. If you turn the slider to the off position, item names will not be displayed in the Quick view pop-up window, but they will continue to be displayed in the associated work order, build, and/or process transactions.
