V9 - Sales commissions and Commission report
If you have created sales representatives in SOS Inventory, the system can track their sales and the commissions they earn.
Methods for calculating sales commissions
Commissions can be calculated using any of the methods listed below. But regardless of the commission calculation method chosen, the sales representative must be defined in the system.
Methods for calculating commissions
The methods for calculating commissions are:
- By the value established for the representative in the sales rep definition. The Sales reps list (Tools & settings > Configuration > Lists > Sales reps) contains the data records for sales representatives. You can define the sales representative's commission to be based on a percentage of sales (Commission %), a flat rate per transaction (Per sale commission), or a combination of both. Only one commission rate may be applied to the sales representative per definition. Currently, SOS Inventory does not support tiered commission rates.
In the screenshot below, the Sales rep Edit page for Cindy Bledsoe assigns a Commission % of 5.

- By the value defined for the sale of an item. Items on the Items list (Operations > Inventory > Items) can be defined so that the commission is based on a percentage of the item’s sale price (Commission rate), a designated per-unit rate (Per sale commission), or a combination of the two. An item may also be commission-exempt if you do not want to pay a commission on sales of that item.
In the screenshot below, a Per sale commission amount of $7.00 has been assigned to the item Aiwa Wireless Speaker.

- By the combined total of the values established in both the sales rep definition and the item definition. If commission values are specified for the item (in the Items list) as well as for the representative (in the Sales reps list), then SOS will calculate a commission that is based on both.
Running a sales commission report
Only administrators can see the Commission report.
To run the Commission report, go to Operations > Reports > Sales > Commission report. Choose your desired order date range, filters, options, and columns. (To generate the report successfully, you must include the name of at least one active sales representative as a filter. You cannot run the report for a sales rep that has been deleted from the system.) Then select in the Retrieve your report section, how you want the report delivered.
The Commission report provides multiple avenues for commission information. These include the ability to display paid and unpaid transactions, value from returns, net or gross values, and commissions based on your settings (item-based commissions and sales representative commissions).
A sample Commission report is displayed below for sales rep Johnny Stern:
