The Lot traceability report (Operations > Reports > Inventory > Lot traceability) is a tool to help you trace a lot-tracked items as it progresses from vendor to customers. Using this report can also help you initiate recall actions.
While the basics for running any report in SOS Inventory are covered in Reporting introduction and Running a report, the filters, options, and columns specific to the Lot traceability report are explained below.
Lot. Select a lot number from the dropdown. The item associated with the lot number is enclosed in parentheses.
Trace where lot ... . A slider that allows you to track lots.
Header. Enter header text for the report, if desired. The header appears when Display is selected under Retrieve your report. If the report is retrieved by Email or Download, the header will appear only if you print your spreadsheet.
Footer. Enter footer text for the report, if desired. The footer appears when Display is selected under Retrieve your report. If the report is retrieved by Email or Download, the footer will appear only if you print your spreadsheet and will display above the system-generated text, Report Generated [date] [timestamp].
The default columns for the Lot traceability report are Lot and Item. Five additional SOS column options are available, as well as any custom fields you have defined for items.
The sample Lot traceability report below is an initial attempt to track Lot SOS-2CD55389 (Lemonade), a manufactured item which has been recalled. In addition to the Lot filter, the slide for the option Trace where lot ... has been set to came from. In addition to the default columns, Lot and Item, Recalled has been selected.
Because the Trace where lot ... was set to came from, three additional columns built into the report—Received, Built, and Made from Process—are displayed.
As the Lot traceability report shows, two lot-tracked ingredients, Lemons (Lot-Tracked) and Sugar, were input items used to manufacture the Lemonade. These items have not been recalled. The report also shows the quantity of lot SOS-2CD55389 that had been manufactured (2), the date of its manufacture (3/18/2026), and the location of manufacture (Main Warehouse).
This allows the lemonade batch to be investigated, to see if it was something internal that went wrong with the lemonade—such as non-sterilized equipment or contamination during the process. By knowing the ingredients used to make the lemonade, those lots can be checked to see if they were the cause. Then use the same Lot traceability report to see if other products may be connected to the recall.

If the Trace where lot ... slider is set to went to, the report displays four different built-in columns: Shipped, Rented, Used to Build, and Used in Process. As shown in the screenshot below, lot SOS-2CD55389 was shipped from the Main Warehouse on 3/18/2026. A quantity of 1 was shipped to Bright Future School on shipment SH85. The same quantity was shipped to customer Dale Franken on SH86.
All customers who received the product being recalled are shown, so that a refund of the sales price or replacement product can be issued.
