V9 - Price tiers
SOS Inventory supports price tiers—also known as price groups or price levels—that allow you to have different pricing structures (such as wholesale and retail pricing) for different customers, as well as quantity-based pricing. Price tiers are available on the Plus and Pro plans.
warningIMPORTANT: Price tiers are necessary for using the Multicurrency feature on sales transactions.
For information on how to use price tiers once they have been created, see Assigning price tiers to customers and using price tiers on transactions.
Creating and editing price tiers
To set up a price group in SOS:
- Go to the Price tiers list (Tools & settings > Configuration > Lists > Price tiers), then select the +Add button.
- Enter the Name of the price tier.
- In the Type field, select the Flat discount, Percent discount, or Item quantity button.
- If you select Flat discount, enter the monetary value.
- If you select Percent discount, enter a percentage in the Discount percent field.
infoTIP: The calculation for the percentage discount is based upon the item's list price (its regular sales price, without discounts). The List price column and price tier on sales forms match the value entered in the Sales price field of the item definition.
- If you select Item quantity, retrieve the item from the dropdown in the Item cell, then enter the appropriate values in the Quantity and Unit price cells of the table. (If you do not wish to have quantity breaks, simply enter one price per item, with a quantity of 1.)
- Use the Filter by item dropdown to choose an item you want to display from that tier.
- If you need to define quantity pricing for an item, the item should be listed multiple times, based on the number of break points you need.
- For a price tier assigned to an item definition, the tier should reflect the first sales price break point for the item. In the example below, the first break point for Air Duster Pro - CatA1 in the Quantity Buys price tier is for a quantity of 5. Air Duster Pro - CatA1 is listed on two more lines, one with a break point for a quantity of 10, and the other with a break point for a quantity of 20.

- If you are creating break points in a tier that is not assigned to an item definition, specify a quantity of 1 for the first entry, as shown for Hammer (ea) in the screenshot below. Then add a Hammer (ea) entry for each sales price break point needed.

- Save when finished editing the tier. The tiers will then appear in the Price tier dropdown on customer Edit pages and on sales transactions.
Any item not in the price tier will use the default pricing specified in its item definition. A price tier can be opened for editing by selecting its name (a blue link) on the Price tiers list (Tools & settings > Configuration > Lists > Price tiers). To remove an entry from the tier, use the Filter by item dropdown to locate the item you want to remove, then click on the gray trash can in to the line item. (Clicking on the red trash in the table header will clear all items from the price tier.)
Creating multicurrency price tiers
If you are using multicurrency, create a price tier for each currency you use. For sales transactions, you can use the price tier to establish your customer’s price for a given item in the customer’s currency. When a product listed in the price tier is entered as a line item on a sales transaction, the values that populate the unit price and amount fields will reflect pricing in the customer’s currency. Please note that the sales prices in this tier will be based on an average exchange rate, so you will need to update these tiers occasionally.
Creating and editing price tiers in bulk
You can use the Export data and Import data features to edit your price tiers in bulk. See Bulk editing price tiers for information on this process.
