V9 - FTP connection setup

FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, enables files to be exchanged between network computers. SOS Inventory supports file transfers for imports, exports, and reports.

This functionality currently connects to non-secure FTP servers, not secure FTP (SFTP) servers.

To establish an FTP connection:

  1. Go to the FTP connections list (Tools & settings > Configuration > Connections > FTP), then select +Add. An FTP connection pop-up window will appear, as shown below:

  2. Complete the data fields.
    1. Enter a unique Name and Description for the connection.
    2. Choose the Connection type: Outbound, Inbound, or Outbound & Inbound. SOS offers Outbound as the standard connection. If you are working with an EDI company, you can choose from either the Inbound or Inbound & Outbound options.
    3. SOS Inventory enables the FTP connection by default. If you wish to disable the connection, uncheck the Enabled box.
    4. Enter the FTP address of the host server in the Host field.
    5. Enter your FTP username and FTP password login credentials. Obtain the login credentials from whoever set up the FTP account.
    6. Enter the server(s) remote path(s). Normally, this is a slash (/) for the root path. Format is /directory/directory.
      1. Enter the Outbound remote path to the remote server if your selected Connection type is Outbound or Outbound & Inbound
      2. Enter the Inbound remote path to your server if your selected Connection type is Inbound or Outbound & Inbound
  3. Save and close.

The new connection will be added to the FTP connections list. The Enabled and Billable columns will display Yes if a connection is enabled and/or billable.
