V8 - Locations
The Plus and Pro plans of SOS Inventory support an unlimited number of inventory locations. A location is typically defined as a place with its own physical mailing or shipping address. For example, if you have multiple stores or multiple warehouses, each would each be a unique location. Locations can also represent segments of a warehouse, delivery vehicles, or concepts (such as promotional items or items in repair).
Refer to Bins for information on tracking items at different places within a specific location (for example, aisles within a warehouse) or specifying different default bins for an item housed at multiple locations.
Creating additional locations
To add a location:
- Go to the Locations list (Company menu > Miscellaneous > Locations).
- Select the Add new button.
- In the Name field, provide a name for your location.
- In the Address subfields, provide the company and contact information, as well as the shipping address, contact email, and phone for the location.
- If this location is to be the default location, enable the Default checkbox.
- In the Sales tax rate field, set the default tax rate for the location if not using the Sales tax center in QuickBooks.
- If this location is to be bin tracked, enable the Bin tracking option.
warningIMPORTANT: If a location will use bin tracking, the bin tracking feature must be enabled at the time the location is created in SOS Inventory. Once a location has been saved in SOS Inventory, its bin tracking status cannot be changed. - If this location is to be used to set stock aside so that it doesn't appear in the available-for-sale numbers, then enable the Non-nettable option (used for promotional items, items returned for repair, etc.).
- Select Save and close.
You can also use the Locations list to edit the address or other attributes of a specific location. Once your locations are set up, you can choose your desired location on each form that requires one. In addition, you will be able to use the Inventory stock status and Inventory value reports to view your quantity and cost basis at each location.
Non-nettable locations
A location can be set up as non-nettable. Items in a non-nettable location are not counted as available for sale. Non-nettable locations are typically used to represent quality assurance items, items awaiting repair, and so on. Items in non-nettable locations do count toward your quantity on hand, because you do indeed have the items. They are simply not available for sale.
