V8 - Pick tickets and Pick tickets list

Pick tickets in SOS Inventory are optional and are warehouse documents. You should use pick tickets only if you need them in addition to the packing slips that are generated with shipments. A pick ticket in SOS is used to give instructions to your warehouse to pull certain items, quantities, serial numbers, lot numbers, etc.

Pick tickets affect available-for-sale quantities if they are created as a standalone transaction. If, however, a pick ticket is generated from a sales order, the available-for-sale quantities are not affected. In either case, a pick ticket must be manually closed to have it show that it is no longer affecting the system.

Pick tickets do not remove items from inventory. They are simply a set of instructions that might be completed.

Although fulfillment-related topics are covered separately from sales in the user guide, picking is part of the sales workflow. Refer to Sales workflow examples for ideas incorporating SOS Inventory's transactions into your sales workflow.

Pick ticket list

The Pick tickets list (Operations menu > Fulfillment > Pick tickets) houses pick ticket forms.

Once the items are pulled and sent to the customer, they should be recorded on a shipment so that they come out of inventory. The Create shipment action on a pick ticket record can be used to generate a shipment transaction. If the pick ticket was generated from a sales order, when the shipment is generated from the pick ticket, it is applied to the associated sales order.

For a general overview of how lists work in SOS Inventory, refer to List functions. See Action and batch action descriptions for more information about the actions available on lists.

Adding and editing a pick ticket

To add a pick ticket, use any of the following methods:

  • Generate a pick ticket from another transaction (most commonly, a sales order). Locate that parent transaction record on its appropriate list, then select Create pick ticket from the parent record's Actions menu.
  • On the Task bar, go to Quick Add > Fulfillment > Pick tickets.
  • Go to Operations menu > FulfillmentPick tickets, then select Add new.

An existing pick ticket record can be opened for editing by selecting its Edit action on the Pick Tickets list. Be sure to save your changes.

For explanations of fields on pick tickets, see Pick ticket and shipment field descriptions.

Ready to pick/ship

The Ready to pick/ship report (Operations menu > Reports > Fulfillment > Ready to pick/ship) shows all orders that can be picked or shipped based on the inventory on hand or the available for sale, depending on options that you choose when generating the report. As you receive new inventory, use this report to fill your backorders. For many SOS Inventory customers, the Ready to pick/ship report becomes a to-do list for their warehouse workers each day.
