V8 - Sales commissions and Commission report

If you have created sales representatives in SOS Inventory, the system can track their sales and the commissions they earn.

Methods for calculating sales commissions

Commissions can be calculated using any of the methods listed below. But regardless of the commission calculation method chosen, the sales representative must be defined in the system.

The methods for calculating commissions are:

  • By the value established for the representative in the sales rep definition. The Sales rep list (Company menu > Sales rep) contains the data records for sales representatives. You can define the sales representative's commission to be based on a percentage of sales, a flat rate per transaction, or a combination of both. Only one commission rate may be applied to the sales representative per definition. Currently, SOS Inventory does not support tiered commission rates.

  • By the value defined for the sale of an item.  Item records on the Items list (Operations menu > Inventory > Items) can be defined so that the commission is based on a percentage of the item’s sale price, a designated per-unit rate, or combination of the two. An item may also be commission exempt if you do not want to pay a commission on sales of that item.

  • By the combined total of the values established in both the sales rep definition and the item definition. If commission values are specified for the item (in the Items list) as well as for the representative (in the Sales reps list), then SOS will calculate a commission that is based on both.

Running a sales commission report

Only administrators can see the Commission report.

To run the Commission report, go to Operations menu > Reports > Sales > Commission report. Choose your desired order date range, filters, options, and columns, then select in the Actions block how you want the report delivered.

In calculating commissions earned, the report considers sales transactions as well as the returns associated with a sales representative.
